Vol. 500 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Enda Kenny

Question:

408 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science the change, if any, made in respect of recommendations for a change of pickup point for transport of pupils to Kilkelly national school, County Mayo (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4462/99]

Safety is of paramount importance to my Department, and to Bus Éireann, which operates the school transport scheme on its behalf. Set-down, turning and pick-up points are carefully selected, always with safety in mind. It is understood from Bus Éireann that its local inspector recently examined the suitability of the proposed pick-up point. Unfortunately, it was not possible to accede to this request, as it would expose other road users to an unacceptable degree of danger.
