Vol. 500 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hearing Impairment Claims.

Jack Wall

Question:

171 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the number of personnel of the Defence Forces attached to each barracks; the number of deafness claims processed for each barracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4207/99]

The number of personnel serving in each barracks is not made publicly available for reasons of security. The approximate percentage number of hearing loss claims as received from personnel attached to each barracks is contained in the following tabular statement.

I should say that because of personnel movements, the percentage of claimants in any given installation will vary over time. It is not possible to give an exact number of claimants in a particular location at a particular time. The attached figures are, however, a good general guide to the distribution of claimants. About 15 per cent of claims received to date have been processed through the courts or by settlements.
