Vol. 500 No. 5

Written Answers. - Education Grants.

Ivan Yates

Question:

167 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be approved for a post leaving certificate maintenance grant in view of the fact that she did not complete her previous post leaving certificate course or obtain a qualification or achievement certification from the partial attendance at the 1998 course and should be considered as a new applicant. [4538/99]

Under the terms of the maintenance grants scheme for students attending post leaving certificate courses a student is not eligible for grant assistance in respect of a second period of study at the same level, irrespective of whether or not a grant was paid previously. As the candidate in question has already pursued a course at NCVA level 2 she may not be considered for grant aid in respect of a second NCVA level 2 qualification.
