Vol. 500 No. 6

Written Answers. - Power Stations.

Willie Penrose

Question:

51 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the position in relation to the refurbishment of Ferbane power station in County Offaly; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4596/99]

ESB staff at Ferbane power station have recently commenced the implementation of the new changes and work practices provided for in the Ferbane staff agreement of 7 March 1997.

Updated contract prices for the refurbishment of unit 4 at Ferbane are currently being finalised by ESB. Some additional costs will also arise due to the expected licensing requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency in relation to Ferbane. The revised cost of refurbishment will be put to an early meeting of the board of ESB for approval and permission to proceed.
