Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Michael Ring

Question:

348 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the grant assistance, if any, available for access to Burrishoole Abbey Cemetery, Burrishoole, Newport, County Mayo. [4971/99]

While Burrishoole Abbey is a national monument in State guardianship and accessible to the general public, I should point out for the information of the Deputy that the cemetery adjoining the monument is not in State care and my Department has no function in relation to any works in the cemetery itself, other than in a monitoring capacity. I should add that there are no plans for major works at Burrishoole Abbey, although normal maintenance works will take place.
