Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Finucane

Question:

415 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Education and Science if Gaelscoil Uí Doghair (Newcastlewest), Caisleán Nua Thiar, County Limerick has been included in the building programme for 1999; and if he will give a statement regarding the current situation in view of the fact four years have elapsed since approval. [5294/99]

The position with the provison of a new school for Gaelscoil Uí Doghair, Newcastlewest is that at present my Department does not have a site for the new building.

My Department is fully committed to the provision of a new school for the Gaelscoil and has undertaken protracted negotiations in order to secure a site. These negotiations failed due to the fact that site services could not be provided which would be suitable for school use. Recently, the school presented a revised proposal to my Department and this is currently being considered. The Department will be in touch with the school management shortly.
