Question:

131 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the percentage volume of pelagic, demersal and shellfish landed in Irish ports for 1999. [5296/99]

Preliminary catch figures to the end of January indicate that the volume of pelagic, demersal and shellfish landed in Irish ports as a percentage of total catch by the Irish fleet is as follows: pelagic landings – 79 per cent; demersal landings – 94 per cent; and shellfish landings – 100 per cent.

Question:

132 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the percentage of the total catch for 1999 which falls into the quota and non-quota category species; and the total catch in this regard. [5297/99]

Preliminary catch figures to the end of January indicate that the percentage of the total catch which falls into the quota category species is 97 per cent and the percentage of that total catch in respect of non-quota species is 3 per cent. The preliminary catch figures to the end of January total 24,510 tonnes.
