Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Emergency Plan for Nuclear Accidents.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

137 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when the revised national emergency plan for nuclear accident will be published and implemented. [4882/99]

On 1 December 1998, the Government approved changes to the operating arrangements for the National Emergency Plan for Nuclear Accidents. The revised arrangements, which are in the process of being implemented, will result in a streamlining of responsibilities among the Government Departments and agencies concerned and will ensure a more efficient and co-ordinated response to a nuclear emergency, should such an event occur. I hope to update the 1992 booklet entitled "National Plan for Nuclear Emergencies" to take account of these changes as soon as possible.
