Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

255 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if 1997 extensification payments due to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5239/99]

In accordance with the EU regulations, extensification premium is paid to herdowners with a stocking density of less than 1.4LUs per hectare.

The person named applied for special beef premium on 34 animals under the ten month scheme. Four of those animals had already been applied on and are therefore counted for stocking density but are not eligible for payment. He has been paid special beef premium on the remaining 30 animals. He also applied and was paid for 41 animals under the 22 month scheme and seven animals under the bull premium scheme. All these animals were under two years, and therefore were each counted at 0.6 livestock unit (82 × 0.6 = 49.2LUs). He also held a milk quota on 1 April 1997 for 31,158 gallons. In order to establish the livestock units equivalent of the milk quota it is necessary to divide by the defined national average milk yield – 897 gallons. Therefore, 31,158 gallons gives 34.7357LUs. The total livestock units are 83.9357 (49.2 + 34.7357). He submitted a 1997 area aid application for 58.92 hectares. The total livestock units of 83.9357 divided by the hectares of 58.92 gives a stocking density of 1.42LUs/hectare. As the stocking density is not less than 1.4LUs/hectare the person named has no entitlement to 1997 extensification premium.

The person named was paid her full entitlement of £960 under the sheep headage scheme on 17 February 1999.
