Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Office of the Ombudsman.

David Stanton

Question:

290 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money allocated to the Office of the Ombudsman for each of the past four years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5291/99]

The amount of money allocated to the Office of the Ombudsman in each of the last four years was as follows: 1998, £2,348,000; 1997, £1,403,000; 1996, £1,391,000; 1995, £1,157,000.

The increased allocation in 1998 was mainly due to the establishment of the Office of the Information Commissioner, and the Referendum Commission. There was also an additional allocation to provide for work associated with the Electoral Act.
