Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Work Permit.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

117 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if a Polish national married to an Irish citizen is required to hold a permit to work in Ireland; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5284/99]

Up to now, non-European economic area nationals, including Polish nationals, even where married to an Irish citizen, have required a work permit to work in this country.

However, my Department is currently in discussions with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform with a view to waiving this requirement for the future.
