Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - Nurses Dispute.

John McGuinness

Question:

248 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the industrial action being taken by the Irish Nurses Organisation at St. Luke's General Hospital, Kilkenny; the action, if any, he will take in conjunction with the South Eastern Health Board; if he or the board can justify not granting the extra nurses as requested by the Irish Nurses Organisation; if he will review the allocation to the board and offer further funds to draw this dispute to a close; if he will re-open the closed ward at Kilcreene, Kilkenny, and extend the services of St. Luke's to Kilcreene in the context of the dispute and its resolution; and if a full report on all these matters will be sought from the board. [6131/99]

I understand discussions are ongoing between the South-Eastern Health Board and the Irish Nurses Organisation. In the circumstances it would not be appropriate for me to comment at this time.
