Question:

264 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the projected expenditure programme for the development of Naas Hospital, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6233/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 263 and 264 together.

The Eastern Health Board has submitted to my Department the stage III documentation for the phase II development of Naas General Hospital. This submission is currently being considered in my Department and it is expected that approval to proceed with the stage IV planning work will issue in the near future.

Works on site will commence when tenders have been sought and approved by my Department. The expenditure requirements in 1999 and subsequent years will depend on several variable factors which are difficult to quantify accurately in advance and in the circumstances it is not possible for me to give a precise timetable of expenditure for the project at this stage.
