Question:

320 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the interim report to Government will be ready in relation to the new steering group to develop and implement an overall programme for change in the Garda Síochána; if Deputy Haughey will be provided with a copy of this report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. A draft report to Government, on progress in implementation of the recommendations of the Garda SMI report, will be considered at the next meeting of the Garda SMI steering group. This is scheduled for 23 March 1999.

It is not intended that the report will be published. However, in view of the Deputy's interest, an outline of the report will be forwarded to him at the appropriate time.
