Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

371 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Education and Science the provisions, if any, his Department is making for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo to obtain a place in a school in the Westport or Louisbourg area. [6096/99]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.

The selection and enrolment of pupils in second level schools is, in the first instance, the responsibility of individual schools. In exceptional circumstances, my Department provides assistance to parents who encounter difficulty in securing a school placement. The advice of my Department's psychological service is being sought in this case, and every effort is being made to find a suitable school placement.
