Alan Shatter

Question:

225 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question No. 246 of 2 February 1999, the way in which the special bonuses intended to be paid to employees of his Department working on the year 2000 issue are to be calculated; if exact details are not available, the approximate sum which will be paid; and the provision, if any, made by his Department to date for the payment of these sums. [5822/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 54 and 225 together.

It is intended that a flat rate loyalty bonus, calculated on the basis of time spent on year 2000 remedial work, will be paid as a lump sum in April 2000 to eligible officers who are still serving in the Civil Service at that date.

The bonus payable will be calculated at the rate of £7,500 subject to a maximum of 18 months' payment.

Appropriate arrangements regarding the payment of such sums will be put in place prior to the appropriate date, that is, 1 April 2000.
