Written Answers. - Family Support Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

92 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children when construction will start on the renal transplant short stay family support centre at Beaumont, Dublin 9; and when the centre will open. [5789/99]

The development of the renal/ transplant short-stay family support centre at Beaumont Hospital is a unique collaborative project between the hospital, the Irish Kidney Association and my Department. Total costs associated with the building and commissioning of the centre will be in the region of £1 million. The majority of the funding is being provided by voluntary contributions to the Irish Kidney Association. However, I am pleased that my Department was able to contribute £310,000 to the building phase. The site is being provided by Beaumont Hospital on a 250 year lease.

The building contract for the centre was signed on 16 October 1998. Site clearance work commenced during the second week of January 1999 and the development is expected to be completed in August 1999.
