Michael Ring

Question:

106 Mr. Ring asked the Taoiseach the plans, if any, he has to provide funding for a millennium park at Murrisk, Westport, County Mayo. [6007/99]

The national millennium committee which is chaired by the Government Chief Whip and Minister of State, Deputy Séamus Brennan, is to advise on project proposals of national significance for inclusion in the Government's Millennium Programme and also to recommend a system for supporting community, local, county or regional projects which will provide an opportunity for local communities, including in areas of social disadvantage, to participate in the millennium commemoration.

A proposal for the development of a millennium park at Murrisk, County Mayo has been received by the millennium committee and will be considered in the context of its mandate.
