Vol. 501 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

101 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if all the money allocated to senior citizens home improvement grants has been used in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6424/99]

I assume that the question relates to the scheme of special housing aid for the elderly which is administered, under the aegis of my Department, by a task force representative of Government Departments, local authorities and other statutory and voluntary bodies. Decisions to grant assistance in individual cases are the responsibility of the health boards who operate the scheme at local level.

Initial allocations for 1999 will shortly be notified to health boards by the task force; supplementary allocations will be made later in the year.
