Vol. 501 No. 4

Written Answers. - Environmental Policy.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

38 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the discussions, if any, he has had prior to the 1998 budget on the introduction of green taxes; if he has satisfied himself with the changes made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6074/99]

I was in close contact with my colleague the Minister for Finance during preparation of the 1999 budget. In addition, officials of my Department were actively engaged in the work of the interdepartmental green tax group. I am satisfied that the environmentally related measures contained in the budget represent a positive step towards the progressive greening of our fiscal system.
