Vol. 501 No. 4

Written Answers. - Genetically Modified Organisms.

John Gormley

Question:

53 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress, if any, of the genetically modified organisms consultation process under the aegis of his Department in view of the recent decision by non-governmental organisations to withdraw from the process; if he envisages a re-examination of the setup of the consultation process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6201/99]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 8 today. I do not regard the statement issued by environmental NGOs as a withdrawal, and I have sought clarification of their position before responding substantively to them. I await a response in this regard.
