Vol. 502 No. 1
114 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the files, if any, sought from his Department by the tribunals of inquiry currently sitting. [7263/99]
The terms of reference of the tribunals of inquiry currently sitting state clearly that it is a matter for them to report directly to the Clerk of the Dáil. Furthermore, the tribunals are empowered by the respective Oireachtas resolutions to carry out such preliminary investigations, including in private, as they think fit. In the circumstances, the Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate of me to comment on any strictly private and confidential correspondence between the tribunals and my Department.
