Vol. 502 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion.

Bernard Allen

Question:

45 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the funding which will be available to the North-South body to be set up to market tourism. [7538/99]

On 18 December, tourism was agreed as one of the six areas for North-South co-operation, but it was specified that this would be carried out through a publicly-owned limited company which would undertake overseas marketing and promotion activity for Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

While this company will not be an implementation body as such, it will play a major role in a leading area of North-South co-operation.

Details regarding the operation of the company, including its level of funding, remain to be agreed, and it would not be appropriate to com ment on any aspect of these pending their finalisation and agreement.
