Vol. 502 No. 2

Written Answers. - Personal Assistance Service.

Seán Ryan

Question:

82 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will report on the operation of the personal assistance service with particular reference to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7509/99]

Personal assistance services are provided by the Irish Wheelchair Association, funded by the Eastern Health Board and by the Centre for Independent Living (CIL) through the use of FÁS trainees under the community employment scheme.

The making of arrangements for the provision of personal assistance services in individual cases is a matter for the relevant health board. Accordingly, I have referred the Deputy's question to the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board with a request that he examine this case as a matter of urgency and reply directly to the Deputy.
