Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Lighting.

Mary Hanafin

Question:

421 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the regulations, if any, governing light pollution; and the guidelines, if any, regarding street lights projecting downwards in order not to destroy the skyline. [8053/99]

This matter is not at present the subject of regulations or guidelines. In general, however, Irish road authorities follow relevant UK codes of practice which are designed, inter alia, to ensure efficient lighting of public roads and to minimise glare and spillage of light.
