I propose to take Questions Nos. 53 and 73 together.
Trade union membership is a matter between members, prospective members and each individual trade union. Difficulties about trade union membership may be referred to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. In some circumstances, individuals having difficulties about trade union membership may wish to seek legal advice.
Trade unions associated with the construction sector include: SIPTU, BATU, ATGWU, UCATT, TEEU, NUSMWI AND OPATSI. The Deputy may be aware that the matters he refers to in his questions, including contract and sub-contract work, are related to proposed changes in the registered employment agreement for the construction sector. These changes are in the first instance a matter for the relevant trade unions and employer body. As the proposed changes are the subject of legal proceedings, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further.
