Vol. 502 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Brendan Daly

Question:

66 Mr. Daly asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will supply adequate funding to enable the Broadford sewerage scheme to go ahead due to the development which has already taken place and in view of future development plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8620/99]

Contract documents for this scheme were submitted to my Department in the 1970s but have not been approved. As the scheme is not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme it comes within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998. This circular asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for water and wastewater infrastructure in its area and to submit a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment before the end of June 1999. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the next National Development Plan 2000-2006.
