Vol. 502 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

79 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science when the required extension to St. Mary's College, Naas, County Kildare, will proceed to stage six in view of the fact stage four and five documents were submitted to his Department in November 1998; the timescale envisaged for completion of the work and seeking of tenders; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8627/99]

The stage 4/5, detailed design/bill of quantities, documentation is being considered by the building unit in my Department. Once this stage has been approved, consideration will be given to authorising the invitation of tenders in the light of available resources.

At this stage I cannot say when construction will commence. I would, however, point out that the provision of almost £60 million for postprimary school building projects in this year's estimates, in comparison with £30 million in the 1997 budget, will enable me to proceed with a significantly increased number of projects.

Pat Carey

Question:

80 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science when the approved works will be carried out at Botanic Avenue national school, Dublin 9; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8628/99]

My Department is currently in the process of finalising the accommodation brief for the proposed extension at Glasnevin Church of Ireland national school, Botanic Avenue, Dublin 9. When this is complete, the school will be authorised to appoint a full design team. At this stage, it is too soon to state when the works will be executed.
