Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Seed Capital Scheme.

Michael Creed

Question:

195 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance the level of uptake on the scheme of assistance for start-up businesses whereby a person is entitled to a refund of the income tax paid in previous years; and the plans, if any, he has to amend the operation of this scheme. [9054/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that under the scheme mentioned by the Deputy, known as the seed capital scheme, income tax refunds have been issued to 370 individuals in respect of investments in 254 separate companies since the inception of the scheme to date.

The 1999 Finance Act which was passed recently provides for a two year extension of the business expansion and seed capital schemes to 5 April 2001.
