Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crime Investigations.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

282 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to a new type of shop (details supplied) in the Dublin area which deals with secondhand goods; his views in relation to the obligation on staff in these shops to ascertain the bona fides of people selling goods to them to ensure that the goods have not been stolen; if the gardaí have a view on the operation of these shops; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8810/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the premises to which the parliamentary question refers closed in November 1998, and moved to another location. I understand that while the business was trading in its original location, property which was the subject of crime was recovered from the premises on a number of occasions.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the situation is being closely monitored.
