Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Michael Ring

Question:

329 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when additional remedial teachers will be appointed to schools (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact that two remedial teachers currently serve the six schools with a pupil base of almost 1,000 pupils. [9033/99]

My priority at present is to ensure that all first and second level schools which currently have no remedial teacher service will be given access to such a service from September next. Arrangements to put this extension of service in place are currently being made in my Department.

I assure the Deputy that the needs of the schools to which he refers will be considered in the event that additional resources become available to improve existing remedial services.
