Vol. 503 No. 2

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Willie Penrose

Question:

73 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Defence if he will make a statement regarding his plans for Army barracks and installations in County Westmeath; and the plans, if any, he has to upgrade these facilities. [9433/99]

There are no plans to change the status of military barracks and installations in County Westmeath. With regard to the upgrading of facilities, I am to say that a number of engineering works, including the refurbishment of the guardroom, armoury and gymnasium at Custume Barracks and the installation of radiator panels and laying of macadam at Columb Barracks, Mullingar, are being undertaken at present.

In addition to the projects mentioned, routine maintenance and repairs will continue to be carried out to all military posts, as required.
