Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Criminal Prosecutions.

John Gormley

Question:

499 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he is in receipt of correspondence from persons (details supplied) in Carlow and the circumstances of their son's death; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10314/99]

I have recently received a number of representations by Deputies on behalf of the persons to whom the question refers. This correspondence is being attended to, and replies will issue in due course.

With regard to the sentence handed down to the person convicted of the killing of their son, I understand that the Director of Public Prosecutions has lodged an appeal against the leniency of the sentence in this case, and that a date for the hearing of the case is awaited. The Deputy will appreciate, therefore, that as the matter is before the courts I cannot comment further.
