Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

153 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has responsibility for the funding of policy in respect of the development of the forestry industry; if this responsibility extends to the Donadea Forest Park, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9674/99]

Responsibility for the management of Donadea Forest Park rests with Coillte Teoranta. The Deputy will be aware that the Forestry Act, 1988, established Coillte as a private commercial company.

Government policy in relation to the forestry industry, including finance, is set out in the strategic plan for the development of forestry in Ireland, "Growing for the Future", which was published in 1996.
