Vol. 503 No. 5

Other Questions. - Hospitals Projects.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

7 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress, if any, made in regard to sanctioning capital works for Leopardstown Park Hospital, County Dublin. [10471/99]

There has been no change since a reply to a similar question from Deputy McManus on 9 March last. The project is dependent on half of the funding being available from a combination of trusts and funds to which the hospital authorities stated they would have access. I am awaiting verification that this is the case.

Will the Minister do this hospital a favour? It is awaiting a package of funding from different sources, one of which is the Sailors and Soldiers Fund which has operated under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach. I have tabled questions to the Taoiseach on this matter but so far I have been told decisions are imminent. Given that the Minister is already commited to the building of this 50-bed unit and that he has stated his commitment to the capital works, will he have a word with the Taoiseach to ensure that part of the package is provided? If that money is made available from the Taoiseach's Department, it appears the rest of the funding will be made available by other ex-service peoples funds.

I will check that aspect for the Deputy.
