Vol. 503 No. 5

Written Answers. - Identity Card Scheme.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

124 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to introduce a national identity card scheme; if so, the timeframe; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10647/99]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the national voluntary age card scheme as provided for in section 40 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988.

I have already informed the House, in reply to Question No. 73 of 10 March 1999 that regulations to provide for the introduction of a national voluntary age card scheme, under the Act of 1988, were made by me on 19 January of this year. The regulations came into effect on 19 April 1999.
