Vol. 503 No. 5

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Dick Spring

Question:

27 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress, if any, achieved to date in devising a care programme to support single teenage mothers whose babies are thought to be at medium risk by maternity hospital staff in view of his post budget announcement; the budget allocated to this programme over the next three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10569/99]

A working group has been established comprising of social workers, public health nurses, child care managers and representatives of the statutory and voluntary sectors. It is currently examining proposals for the pilot and I expect a recommendation shortly. A budget will be agreed following receipt of the proposal from the working group.
