Vol. 503 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Welfare Offices.

Austin Deasy

Question:

65 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the provision of new community welfare offices in Dungarvan, County Waterford; and if the new offices will be located centrally in the town to facilitate the public. [10536/99]

The provision of community care facilities in the Dungarvan area is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

The board is considering relocating the community welfare officer in Dungarvan from existing unsuitable premises which are isolated from the community care services in St. Joseph's Hospital. Proposals to upgrade the facilities at St. Joseph's Hospital are at an advanced stage and these proposals will improve the overall facilities for the public availing of all community care services.

The board is also looking at the possibility of operating outreach CWO clinics nearer to the current premises such as the new county council offices which are due to be completed in 1999.
