Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Aid Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

155 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the minimum age to qualify for the special housing aid for the elderly scheme as administered by the health boards. [10692/99]

As the Deputy is aware, the housing aid scheme for the elderly is administered by the health boards on behalf of the Department of Environment and Local Government, who also fund the scheme. Guidelines for the operation of the scheme are determined by a task force which is under the aegis of the Department of Environment and Local Government and is chaired by an official of that Department.

It is my understanding that the term "elderly" is not defined by way of specific minimum age in these guidelines.
