Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Medical Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

168 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself that sufficient cover is provided for medical card holders in the Cappoquin general area requiring the services of a doctor at the weekend; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10809/99]

I have had inquiries made with the South-Eastern Health Board in this matter and the position is as follows. There is a one-in-three rota operating in the Cappoquin area provided by local general practitioners rather than by a locum or deputising service. Two of the general practitioners involved are from Cappoquin while the third is from Lismore, which is four miles from Cappoquin. The South-Eastern Health Board is not aware of any difficulties and I am satisfied on the basis of the above details that there is sufficient cover at the weekend.
