Enda Kenny

Question:

174 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children if all the recommendations in the Smart report commissioned by the Western Health Board in 1997 have been implemented at the laboratory at Mayo General Hospital to ensure proper safety standards; if any unautoclaved biological material is being sent out of the laboratory; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Enda Kenny

Question:

175 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself that all necessary facilities are available to the laboratory at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo, to ensure safe working conditions and the highest safety standards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10933/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 174 and 175 together.

The provision of laboratory services in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this matter and to reply to the Deputy directly.
