Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Port Tunnel.

Ivor Callely

Question:

188 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the schedule for all matters and procedures relating to the Dublin Port terminal; when the inspectors of the public inquiry will report; the other procedures required and the other issues which will be taken into consideration before a final decision will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10797/99]

A public local inquiry into all matters relating to the 1998 Dublin Port Tunnel Motorway scheme commenced on 2 March 1999. The inquiry was adjourned to 27 April 1999 and it is expected to conclude today.

Following the public inquiry, the persons appointed to hold the inquiry will complete and submit a report to me. I must consider that report, together with the environmental impact statement, toll scheme and the submissions made, before determining the various matters for decision. They are the motorway and tolling proposals and the environmental acceptability of the project. With regard to all these matters, it is open to the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to approve the proposals submitted with or without modification, or to refuse to approve them. I intend that these processes will be completed as soon as possible.
