Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

259 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will instruct officials in his primary building unit to enter into discussions with Kildare County Council with a view to purchasing a site for the new school at Ballymakealy, Celbridge, County Kildare, which will enable the preparation of plans and seeking of planning permission for the permanent school in view of the fact that the long-term accommodation brief has been set for the north Kildare national school project in Celbridge; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10680/99]

On 10 January 1999 I announced an initiative whereby the State would offer to purchase the sites for all new national schools. The situation now is that a working party in the Department is assessing the implementation arrangements for the new initiative. When this work is completed, my Department will be in a position to address individual projects such as the North Kildare national school project.
