Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

John Gormley

Question:

52 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the way in which the National Development Sustainable Partnership will help with Ireland meeting CO2 commitments under the Kyoto agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7576/99]

I have asked Comhar – the National Sustainable Development Partnership – in considering its work programme, to examine and, as necessary, make recommendations on how best to influence behaviour across the economy and society to support Ireland's international commitments on climate change, including limiting growth in greenhouse gas emissions. As a multi-stakeholder representative group, Comhar is well placed to make an important contribution in this regard in the context of the range of actions which will be necessary under the national greenhouse gas abatement strategy now in preparation. It is a matter for Comhar to decide how best to address this matter.
