Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Air Quality.

Liz McManus

Question:

61 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the communications, if any, received from the EU Commission in relation to Council Directive 96/62/EC on ambient air quality assessment and management; the response, if any, he has given in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10847/99]

I refer to the reply to Questions No. 741 of 27 January 1999 and No. 272 of 16 February 1999.

A copy of the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992 (Ambient Air Quality Assessment and Management) Regulations, 1999, transposing the framework elements of Directive 96/62/EC, was sent to the European Commission on 8 March 1999. The regulations were accompanied by a letter indicating that there are no outstanding provisions of the Directive requiring transposition into Irish law at this time and that further provisions will be transposed when subsidiary directives setting limit values for specific pollutants are adopted into EU law.
