Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Overseas Development Aid.

Nora Owen

Question:

100 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make a contribution available to an organisation (details supplied) which is working in Lesotho and Mozambique; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10956/99]

Since the Deputy last raised the subject of this organisation in this House on Tuesday 9 March, representatives of the organisation in question met with officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs earlier this month in Dublin and discussed the detail of the two projects. Consultations are continuing with a view to improving the quality of the applications. The Deputy will know that all applications are subject to a rigorous appraisal process in order to ensure effectiveness, value for money and transparency.
