Vol. 503 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Projects.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

112 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make a special allocation available to Kerry County Council to complete the footpath from Listowel to Dirrha East, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11124/99]

The maintenance and improvement of non-national roads, including footpaths, in their area is a matter for Kerry County Council, to be funded from their own resources, supplemented by grants made available by my Department from the local government fund. The initial selection-prioritisation of projects in County Kerry to be assisted from the various grant categories is a matter for the council, however, and neither I nor my Department has any function in the matter.

Non-national road grants for 1999 have been allocated to local authorities and there are no funds at the disposal of my Department from which further grants could be made available to county councils.
