Vol. 503 No. 7

Written Answers. - Recovery of Remains.

Tony Gregory

Question:

118 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason for the delay in recovering the remains of a person (details supplied) outlined in a newspaper article on 22 April 1999. [11093/99]

I assure the Deputy that, contrary to suggestions in the newspaper article to which he refers, there has been no delay in the efforts to locate and recover the remains of the person in question. I am sure he will appreciate that efforts to locate and recover from another jurisdiction the remains of a person, murdered and secretly buried there almost 14 years ago, are unavoidably complicated and time consuming. I am hopeful that these efforts, which are ongoing with the wholehearted assistance of the relevant French authorities, will have a successful outcome very shortly.
