Vol. 504 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Owen. I call on Deputy Owen to state the matter of which she gave me notice.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent public importance: the suspension of the sale of Cablelink Ltd., the serious allegation that one of the companies bidding for Cablelink may have attempted to form a price-fixing arrangement and that an invalid bid for Cablelink may have been accepted. Given the major flotations of other State companies likely to take place in the future, this allegation has the potential seriously to undermine their success.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
