Vol. 504 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Parks.

Enda Kenny

Question:

74 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when work will commence on the proposed national park in north Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11062/99]

The designation of the national park in north west Mayo came into effect on the 1 November 1998. As the Deputy is aware, I announced on 24 July last that the proposed visitor centre for the park will be located within Ballycroy, provided that a suitable site can be identified and acquired by my Department. A request for details of prospective sites was issued through the working group which includes representatives of local bodies in addition to those from Dúchas and Office of Public Works. I intend to apply for funding for this project under the next round of EU Structural Funds.
